đź©· Breast Cancer Awareness Morning Tea, Friday 23 October 2026

Today, Kambu Health CEO Dania Ahwang and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nicci Roux hosted a special Breast Cancer Awareness Morning Tea, bringing together our Elders and our community for some important yarns about breast health, early detection and looking after ourselves and one another.
đź©· A big thank you to our wonderful Elders for joining us, sharing stories and being part of these important conversations.
When our mob comes together to yarn, listen and share knowledge, we strengthen the health and wellbeing of our whole community.
đź©· Remember, looking after your health is important. Don't put off that check-up!
An important statistic for our mob
In 2025, only 37.5% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women aged 50–74 participated in breast screening, compared with 51.7% of non-Indigenous women (age-standardised rates).
This highlights the importance of culturally safe breast health conversations and helping our women access screening services.
When should you get a mammogram?
Aged 40–49: Eligible for free screening. Discuss the benefits and risks with your doctor.
Aged 50–74: Recommended to have a free mammogram every two years.
Aged 75 and over:Â Free screening is available. Discuss whether it is right for you with your doctor.
If you notice symptoms, see your doctor rather than booking a routine screening mammogram.
Have a yarn with Kambu Health about booking your breast screen when the Breast Screen Queensland van is onsite at Ipswich Clinic next month!!
