World Hepatitis Day is held on 28 July each year.

- Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that is caused by a variety of infectious viruses and non-infectious agents - There are 5 main strains of the hepatitis virus and types B and C can lead to chronic disease including liver cirrhosis and liver cancer - Some types of hepatitis are completely preventable through vaccination - Only 10% of people with chronic Hepatitis B and 21% of people with chronic Hepatitis C know that they have the virus - Hepatitis C can be diagnosed by a blood test and over 95% of infections can be cured with a course of oral medication for as little as 8 weeks
